BLOOD DATA BANK

Dear Rotarians,

Greetings from Rotary Club of Faisalabad & Rotary International District 3272.

We are pleased to announce the launch of a webpage for blood group data and list of volunteers. These volunteers comprise of Rotarians and friends of Rotarians. This data will be useful to approach volunteers in case of any crisis needing blood donation.

Hence, it is our sincere and humble request to each Rotarian to come forward, list as a volunteer and donate the Blood regularly or at least as and when required. You are well aware that in Pakistan, we are always short of blood and its shortage becomes more acute, since the Blood is used as a whole product instead of using its respective components like Red Blood Cells (RBCs), White Blood Cells (WBCs), and Platelets.

If the Blood is broken into its components, the same could meet the need of 2 to 3 patients. This process of breaking the blood into its components and using only the required component enables us to meet the specific need of the patient. Thus, the risk of infection to the patients is also reduced. Blood and its components viz., Red Blood Cells, White Blood Cells and Platelets are most sought after in the present day context.

It is estimated that almost half of required blood is collected from professional and commercial donors. It is observed that such donors are often drug addicts and donate blood too frequently i.e. earlier than three months. These donors have higher risk rate of infectious diseases like HIV, Hepatitis, Malaria and Syphilis.

The answer to the problem is to come forward as a volunteer and donate Blood. The fact that BLOOD cannot be manufactured makes it more important, that healthy people should donate Blood more generously to save human lives. So join this noble cause and be the one giving Gift of Life. Organize BLOOD donation camps in your Rotary Clubs, Offices, Factories and colonies.

“World Blood Donation Day” will fall on June 14 and we wish to make significant progress in this regard by that day.
